Doctoral Program (PhD) in Water Resources

Our postgraduate training program at the Doctorate or PhD equivalent level focuses on the content of the research program in the field of water resources or related aspects, for a period of a minimum of three years and a maximum of five years.

The Doctorate in Water Resources program focuses on an integrated and transversal perspective of water sciences, including water resources management and engineering as well as a variety of operational and planning measures for storage and samples, in particular :

  • Hydrometeorological and climatological monitoring to assess water availability and its distribution in time and space ;
  • Hydraulic developments for the mobilization of surface and underground water resources with a view to improving access to water services and optimizing production ;
  • The development of waterways and agricultural services to facilitate the flow of agricultural products and the exchange of goods and services ;
  • The mobilization of water and energy for the processing industry and the product value chain ;
  • Hydraulic developments and the protection of watersheds to ensure the function of water production and the fight against pollution of watercourses ;
  • Estimation of point and non-point sources of pollution ;
  • Monitoring of floods and drought ;
  • Reservoirs to increase supply and contain flooding ;
  • Saving water ;
  • Fisheries production ;
  • The flooding of mines and quarries ;
  • Urban water drainage ;
  • Reducing flood risks ;
  • Maintaining aquatic ecosystems ;
  • Quantifying the effects of environmental changes ;
  • The application of any other innovative approach to emerging water resources issues.

Prerequisites and duration of the program

The Doctorate (PhD) program extends over a minimum of three years and a maximum of five years. The candidate for the Doctorate in Water Resources program is bound by the requirements of the law in force.

The implementation of the program is based on the Vademecum of Higher and University Education in force.

Application files

Candidates wishing to register are invited to submit their files no later than May 10, 2023. The file must contain the following elements :

A letter requesting registration addressed to the Director of the Regional School of Water and Coordinator of the Intra-African Academic Mobility Program in Water Resources ;

  • Curriculum Vitae ;
  • A certified copy of a state diploma ;
  • Certified copies of academic records and Bachelor's, Engineering or equivalent diplomas ;
  • A cover letter ;
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Proof of financial support.

National candidates or any other country required to register must secure a source of funding to cover study costs including:

  • Participation in theoretical and practical courses
  • Laboratory and field work
  • Guided tours
  • Professional internships
  • Research and writing of the dissertation
