A field data collection campaign on the Climate-Water-Migration and Conflict nexus was organized in the project area, from July to August 2019. This campaign took place directly in the provinces of Bas -Uélé, Haut-Uélé and Ituri, and indirectly in the provinces of Nord-Ubangi and Sud-Ubangi. It was part of in-depth scientific research aimed at obtaining up-to-date hydro-climatic and socio-economic information, with a view to studying migratory movements linked to climate and water, and the different conflicts that result.

Location and justification of survey sites

The choice made on these provinces in the North-Eastern part of the DRC is justified by the fact that this region is experiencing multiple conflicts linked to water resulting from migratory movements, exacerbated by political-military activities, the resurgence of armed groups and negative forces such as LRA, ADF, Mayi-Mayi, etc., illegal exploitation and degradation of natural resources, emergence of viral and epidemiological diseases such as Ebola and Cholera. All of the above factors and the ambitious proposals to transfer water from the Congo Basin to supply Lake Chad have negative impacts on this region, and affect local communities, particularly socially vulnerable groups including women and children. The figure below presents the different survey sites visited by the researchers.
