"I had the privilege of participating in a two-week internship at the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, as part of the Renewable Energy Modeling for Sustainable Development in Africa program, initiated by the International Energy Agency (IEA) This internship was part of the “ICTP Joint Summer school for sustainable development 2023” program, carried out in collaboration with the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICPT).

This experience was an exceptional opportunity to gain in-depth training, access enriching discussion forums, and benefit from coaching skills regarding essential models and tools for energy planning. The different energy planning tools covered during this internship were:

  • OSeMOSYS and FlexTool: These tools make it possible to determine the necessary investments in the energy sector to meet growing demand while respecting environmental and security constraints. They integrate the flexibility of the electricity system, essential due to the high penetration of renewable energies.
  • FINPlan: This financial analysis model for power sector expansion details how financing is structured in the energy sector globally, with a particular focus on developing countries. It provides a financial analysis framework for energy projects.
  • OnSSET: This tool allows you to create an electrification analysis by integrating geospatial data into energy modeling. This opens new perspectives for better understanding the Earth's different energy resources and their integration into energy modeling.
  • CLEWS: This tool simultaneously takes into account food, energy and water security. It aims to assess how the production and use of these resources can influence climate change and how, in turn, climate change can impact these resource systems.

The course concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants, thus marking the end of this enriching and educational experience."
