Access to sanitation around the world remains limited for a large part of the population. Nearly 4 billion people on the planet use sanitation facilities that discharge untreated excrement directly into nature, which has the consequence of polluting ecosystems and threatening the health of those exposed. Furthermore, more than 670 million people still practice open defecation, and 367 million schoolchildren go to schools without toilets.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), target 6.2, stipulate that by 2030 access for all, under equitable conditions, to adequate sanitation and hygiene services must be ensured and put an end to open defecation, paying particular attention to the needs of women and girls and people in vulnerable situations Indicator.

The Congo Basin Water Resources Capacity Building Network (CB-HYDRONET) of the CRREBaC Center, in collaboration with the global capacity building network in the water sector Cap-Net and the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) a organisé, le 28 avril 2021, une formation des formateurs sur les normes ISO 24521 et 30500, en vue de leur vulgarisation auprès des états en développement, dont la République démocratique du Congo.

The objectives pursued by the training were to:

  • Contextualize knowledge acquired during online training at the local level;

  • Collect the specific concerns of each participant who completed the training;

  • Catch up with participants who were unable to access the virtual campus, or who accessed but did not obtain their certificates.

The training saw the participation of professionals from the water sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo, including academic and research institutions, ministries, municipalities, drinking water and sanitation services.
