Professor Raphaël took the opportunity to demonstrate the place of scientific research within the school, highlighting the objective of innovation in the water sector, with a particular focus on services linked to resources in water.
Constructive speeches
Mr. BANZA NSOMWE A NFUNKWA Eustache, Academic Secretary General of the University of Kinshasa, warmly welcomed the participants. He highlighted the crucial scientific contribution of the Regional School of Water in strengthening the capacities of experts in water resources. He also addressed the issues and challenges facing the Democratic Republic of Congo in the field of water resources, the geopolitical and geostrategic considerations linked to this sector and their role in regional cooperation. He also encouraged the school management for its dedication to the development of water services in the DRC, an essential element for the socio-economic progress of the country.
The representative of the Ministry of Higher and University Education explained the crucial role of water resources in the face of environmental issues, in particular climate change and political issues. He expressed congratulations and encouragement for the efforts made by the University of Kinshasa through the Regional School of Water in this vital area.
Finally, representatives of the first promotion of the Regional School of Water shared their experiences, highlighting the difficulties overcome and the achievements accomplished during their course. They expressed their gratitude to the management committee of the University of Kinshasa and the Management of the Regional School of Water for the constant support received. The symbolic action of presenting a bouquet of flowers to the initiator and Director of the ERE, Professor Raphaël Tshimanga, closed the first part of this Open Day, thus underlining their recognition and appreciation for his leadership and his commitment.

After these inspiring and encouraging words, the Assistance proceeded to visit the exhibition stands of the tools and equipment of the Regional School of Water as well as the academic projects of the Master's learners of the different ERE Programs.

A shared passion
A host of renowned institutions have converged towards the same objective: the promotion of sustainable management of water resources in the Congo Basin. This convergence illustrates the collective commitment to the socio-economic development of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through responsible and informed use of this precious resource.
The NGO Oxfam, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ/RESE), the National Scientific Council (CSN), the College of Advanced Studies in Strategy and Defense (CHESD), the Higher Institute of Applied Techniques (ISTA), the University of Kinshasa, the Congolaise des Voies Maritimes (CVM), the Water Resources Directorate within the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD), and the Satellite Observatory of Central African Forests (OSFAC) have joined forces to tackle complex water challenges.
The presence and contribution of the Ministry of Energy, the National Center for the Environment (CNE-MRHL), the Water Distribution Authority of the Democratic Republic of Congo (REGIDESO S.A.), the National Institute of Professional and Technical Training (INBTP), the Center for Environmental Sciences Studies (CESEN), and the National Agency for Meteorology and Satellite Remote Sensing (METTELSAT) have strengthened this collective dynamic.
The National Pedagogical University (UPN), the Riverway Authority (RVF), the Galaxy Media Agency (AGM), the CREE Research Center, the Higher Institute of Medical Techniques of Kenge (ISTM-KENGE), and the The Geographical Institute of Congo (IGC) also contributed to the richness of the exchanges.
The Congolese Agency for Ecological Transition and Sustainable Development (ACTEDD), the National Intelligence Agency (ANR), the Governance Observatory (OG), and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Kinshasa provided their expertise and visions for a sustainable future.
The Faculty of Agronomic and Environmental Sciences, the Faculty of Oil and Gas, and the Center for Geological and Mining Research (CRGM) also actively participated in this initiative, highlighting the interdisciplinarity and complementarity of the skills required to address the issues linked to the water.
The World Bank (WB), the Peatland Management Unit (UGT) within the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD), the National Agency for the Promotion of Investments (ANAPI), and the University of Lubumbashi (UNILU) also marked their presence and their commitment.
Among the key players, we also find the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Mines, the French Embassy, the Institute of Medical Sciences and Techniques of Kinshasa (ISTM KIN), the International Commission of the Congo-Oubangui-Sangha Basin (CICOS), and the Presidency of the DRC.
This open day was an opportunity to highlight collective mobilization in favor of responsible and informed management of water resources in the Congo Basin. The synergy between these promising institutions reflects a common vision aimed at sustainable development, where responsible water management takes center stage. Together, they are working for a future where water will be a vector of socio-economic, environmental and human progress for the DRC.
