Led by the Rector of the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN), Mr. Jean-Marie Kayembe, this workshop was an opportunity for teams of scientists from the Congo Basin Water Resources Research Center (CRREBaC) and the Regional Water School (ERE) to present the detailed results of their preliminary investigations. Professor Raphaël Tshimanga, Doctor Godé Bola and Assistant Banza took the floor to share the results of their investigations covering the causes and sources of worsening flooding, as well as the damage already observed. In addition, they took stock of predictions regarding flooding in the basin and presented a case study on the quality of polluted water.
The workshop took place in the Monekoso room at the University of Kinshasa on Thursday January 25, 2024, providing a setting conducive to enriching discussions and fruitful exchanges. The audience, made up of key stakeholders such as operators, representatives of riparian countries and international cooperators, members of government institutions, civil society, the academic and scientific community, as well as actors from the private sector, actively participated in discussions in order to propose to decision-makers a short and medium-term response plan on flood management.
Professor Raphaël Tshimanga invites stakeholders to change the paradigm so that flooding is no longer a problem but an opportunity for water recovery.
